Road safety council in warning over ag show
the three days of the 55th Agricultural Exhibition.
Noting that a unusually large number of equestrians will be on the road "at all times of day'', the council gave the following tips which can help to alleviate traffic accidents: When overtaking horses allow ample room and "do not sound your horn''; Do not pass on corners or bends or near concealed entrances. Be patient and make sure there is no approaching traffic before you start to pass; If a rider or driver of a horse gives you the signal to pass, remember that you are still responsible for proceeding with caution.
The council also had the following advice for equestrians: Riders should ride in single file; If there is a very long line of traffic held up behind you, drivers can assisted by pulling into a lay-by and allowing the traffic to pass; Both riders and drivers should assist motorists whenever they can. If you can see approaching traffic, indicate to the traffic behind you that it is not safe to pass.
