hours of yesterday morning.

Police spokesperson Evelyn James Barnett said a man entered the restaurant just after 1 a.m. and demanded money from the cashier.

Continuing to demand money, he then began striking the keys of the cash register with his hand, but the drawer remained closed.

The man then walked to the other side of the counter and the cashier was able to escape and then closed a dividing door inside the restaurant. The cashier then informed the night manager of what was taking place.

The manager alerted Police, but the would-be robber made a hasty retreat out of the restaurant without cash or other goods.

Mrs. James Barnett said the man left the premises on the back of an accomplice's motorcycle. The men escaped, driving west onto South Road. No one was injured.

The first suspect was described as being over six feet tall, of slim build, and approximately 23 years of age. He was carrying a three-foot-long machete.

The second suspect, the accomplice, was described as approximately 32 years old, dark skinned, clean shaven, of medium build and shorter than the first suspect.

Ch. Insp. Carlton Adams is heading a Police investigation.
