Roberts couple to stand trial
finds have been committed to stand trial at the Supreme Court.
Barbara Roberts, 59, and her 71-year-old husband William Roberts appeared briefly in Magistrates' Court on Monday.
Both are charged with being concerned with others not before the court of possessing cocaine valued at $1.5 million intended for supply.
They are also alleged to have knowingly handled cocaine intended for supply and possession of 36 plastic bags, kitchen scales and a knife in connection with a controlled drug.
Yesterday's hearing was to decide if they should be sent to the Supreme Court to have their case heard.
The couple, of West Side Road, Sandys Parish, were represented by Richard Hector and will appear at the higher court on June 2. Bail was extended.
SEX ASSAULT REPORTED CTS Sex assault reported Police are investigating a report of a sexual assault on a 13-year-old St.
George's Secondary female student.
The incident was alleged to have occurred two weeks ago.
Police spokesperson Evelyn James Barnett last night confirmed that the matter had been brought to the attention of the Police Community and Juvenile Services.
But she said she could not release further details because of the nature of the complaint.
EAST BROADWAY WORKS GVT TFC East Broadway works Motorists travelling along East Broadway can expect delays for the next month.
The Ministry of Works and Engineering yesterday announced that roadworks by the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute will begin today and are expected to last until June 13.
A spokesperson said the work -- which will be carried out between 9.30 a.m.
and 3.30 p.m. to minimise traffic delays -- will cause single lane closures at varying times along East Broadway.
The existing East Broadway crossover will be relocated further south to allow traffic to get in and out of the BUEI.
Works and Engineering apologised for the inconvenience, but advised motorists to use extra caution when using the roadway.
FIRE DAMAGES HOME FIR Fire damages home Up to $4,000 damage was caused when fire damaged a bedroom at a property at Wilson Place, Somerset.
The occupant put out the blaze before firemen arrived at about 9 a.m. on Monday.
A Fire Service spokesman said damage was confined to bedding and a window.
He added the fire was thought to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
MONEY BAG STOLEN CRM Money bag stolen Police are again reminding the public not to leave bags or valuables unattended in vehicles after a truck driver reported a bank pouch, containing about $200, credit cards and a driver's licence was lifted from his truck.
The theft happened after the complainant left the vehicle unattended on King Street between Saturday night and Monday morning.
SHOPLIFTER STRIKE CRM Shoplifter strikes Police are investigating a report of shoplifting at the 27th Century Boutique on Reid Street in Hamilton.
A man apparently entered the shop around 2.30 p.m. and after attempting to return some previously purchased goods, grabbed an expensive black suit from the rack and ran out.
The female owner tried unsuccessfully to stop the man from escaping.
WATER STREET FIGHT CRM Water Street fight St. George's Police attended an early morning report of a disturbance on Water Street.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers found a man bleeding from a head wound but he refused offers of medical attention.
Police inquiries revealed the man had been beaten by several other men following an altercation.
