Another two crewmen from the Maltese-registered cargo ship Kiwi , who were less seriously injured, are understood to be comfortable.
The four were rushed from St. George's after the Kiwi diverted to Bermuda after an accident on board as the ship ran into Hurricane Tanya.
Paramedics from the US Coast Guard were airlifted from Florida and boarded the ship to tend the two most seriously-injured men as it steamed towards the Island.
The ship was met by ambulances which rushed the men to hospital. One crewman suffered serious head and face injuries in the accident and was operated on by surgeons yesterday. Another suffered serious chest injuries. A hospital spokeswoman described both men's condition last night as "stable''.
