Senate electioneering begins Pre-election campaigning got underway in earnest yesterday in the Upper House.
Government Senate Leader E.T. (Bob) Richards got things going with his comments on an old interview given by PLP MP Derek Burgess. He said Mr.
Burgess made a comment in the interview that a tax on companies profits should be put in escrow for capital investment.
"Is this a window into the philosophy of Mr. Burgess,'' Sen. Richards asked.
"It smacks of redistribution of wealth which is the same thing as taxes.'' But Sen. Terry Lister (PLP) said Sen. Richards took the sentence out of context and that he failed to give sufficient background.
"Mr. Burgess was trying to highlight the need to place emphasis on reinvesting in companies,'' he said.
WARN CHILDREN ABOUT LAW BREAKING SEN Warn children about law breaking An Opposition Senator yesterday urged parents to explain to their children the difference between having fun and breaking the law.
Sen. Terry Lister (PLP) yesterday made the call during his comments on shoplifting in the motion to adjourn debate in the Senate.
"Parents have to take responsibility and talk to their kids about the difference between having fun and breaking the law,'' he said.
SENATOR MAKES PLEA FOR THE DEAF SEN Senator makes plea for the deaf Hundreds of hearing impaired visitors will descend on the Island this winter for a conference.
And Community Affairs Minister Yvette Swan urged locals to be sensitive to the special needs of the visitors.
She said some 300 hearing impaired and deaf visitors will visit Bermuda in November for an international conference.
