Senate to discuss Throne Speech
Throne Speech when it meets today.
Senate President Alf Oughton said the other item due to be looked at today was the Census Amendment (No. 2) Regulations 2000 which extends the period of enumeration until February 28 next year.
In mid-July, the Senate approved a change in the Census Regulations which extended the completion date from July 31 to August 31 after many enumerators dropped out.
However, Government's Throne Speech presented two weeks ago said "a number of challenges -- including an increased number of households who refused to co-operate outright, or tried to avoid being enumerated -- have hindered the timely completion of the 2000 Census''.
Also on the Senate Agenda is a Motion regarding Proposed Amendments to the Constitution of Bermuda, to be moved by PLP Senate Leader Milton Scott on October 27. However, Senators will have to wait to discuss this as it has not been discussed in the Lower House yet.
