Senators praise island's stance against drugs
showing the community's stance against illegal drug use.
Sen. Lawrence Scott UBP led off the applause in the Senate yesterday, asking that congratulations be sent to the organisers of the National Stadium event and anti-drug walk which attracted a 5,000-strong crowd.
The numbers reflected Bermudians would not tolerate drugs in the community, he said.
The family of well-known Somerset plumber Mr. Junius Burrows was on Sen.
Scott's list of condolences.
Sen. Neletha Butterfield PLP congratulated Warwick Preschool for its re-enactment of the Martin Luther King march to Washington DC to celebrate Black History Month.
She was joined by both Opposition and Government senators, as well as independent Sen. Alf Oughton in congratulating the Bank of Butterfield for putting on International Race Week, in which student, Bermudian and overseas runners participated.
Sen. Yvette Swan UBP expressed her pleasure with the Menuhin Foundation's January 22 wide-ranging concert.
And she asked that condolences be sent to the family of Earlston Edness who died recently. He was the older brother of Health Minister the Hon. Quinton Edness and the husband of Mrs. Jane Edness, she said.
Sen. the Hon. Gerald Simons UBP asked that condolences be sent to the family of Salvation Army sergeant major Edmund Hollinsid who died last week.
Sen. Terry Lister PLP added his name to the those congratulating Ms Leleath Bailey for becoming the second woman to head the Bermuda Public Services Association in a tense election this month.
