Service The Royal Gazette has learned.

Ch. Insp. Esdaille, who heads the Eastern Division, was the subject of an investigation that is now completed.

Police spokesman Insp. Coghlin Gibbons confirmed that the senior officer had been investigated.

Insp. Gibbons who read from a prepared statement said:"With reference to Chief Insp. Esdaille, the Deputy Commissioner confirms that there has been an internal disciplinary inquiry which is now completed.

"As it is internal no further comment will be made.'' The Royal Gazette understands that the matter involved allegations of sexual harassment.

A female Police officer, who graduated from the Police training school in 1993, is believed to have brought the charges against Mr. Esdaille.

Insp. Gibbons refused to confirm or deny this when it was put to him.

"I'm not admitting or denying or making any comment,'' he said.

Earlier Mr. Mylod sought to scotch reports made on VSB radio yesterday morning that alleged an unnamed senior officer had been suspended from duty.

In a news release that labelled the broadcast "inaccurate'', Mr. Mylod said: "With regard to the early news broadcast today, there is absolutely no truth in their statement that senior officers have been suspended from duty at St.

George's Police Station.

"Further allegations that the officers had been asked to resign as an alternative to dismissal and statements that members of the public have made allegations of corruption are entirely without foundation.'' VSB senior news correspondent Mr. Bryan Darby said VSB had received confirmation for part of the story because Mr. Mylod confirmed an internal investigation was being carried out and it involved a senior police officer.

"Inasmuch as that is confirmation of the bones of the story (we ran) we obviously stand by that,'' he said.

"Where we feel that (the Police are) justified is in denying the allegation of corrupt practices at the St. George's Police station.'' Mr. Darby admitted that in their report they used the phrase "we have been informed that.

"Naturally we accept that and he (Mr. Mylod) is right to correct that misperception we really don't know quite what there is to say. We did not identify the senior officer and we've gone no further with the story.

"Once we had the denial of the corruption allegations, we had felt perhaps we had jumped the gun.''
