Sentencing deferred for coke addict
self-confessed drug addict, who stole from his mother to support his habit, to prison.
Mr. Judge said he was not sure that prison would cure 23-year-old Richard Dill's problem.
Dill, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to stealing $200 from his mother on April 21.
The court heard that Dill's mother, Linda, reported that he had stolen the money from a dress in her clothes closet.
Dill apologised for his actions and told Police he used the money to buy cocaine.
Dill, who is unemployed and on probation, was sent to prison for three months in February for stealing a Bank of Bermuda bag and its contents. He has other stealing convictions dating back to November last year.
"I think I want an update on probation,'' Mr. Judge said. "It's a pity where Mr. Dill has gone. You can see where cocaine abuse can lead.
"I'm not sure throwing this man straight back in prison is going to cure the problem.'' Mr. Judge adjourned the matter until May 8. Dill was granted $500 bail with one surety in the like sum.
