Sex attack: Man appears in court
in Magistrates' Court yesterday.
The man was arrested last week when Police responded to the complaint of a 41-year-old St. George's woman.
The alleged sexual assault took place early Wednesday morning.
The court heard yesterday that the man threatened both the woman and her boyfriend, who live in the same housing complex as the man.
Saying that the court cannot overlook the fact that trials may take a long time to occur, Acting Senior Magistrate Edward King said he did not wish to remand the man in custody.
"You can spend 18 months waiting for a trial for one reason or another,'' he said.
Mr. King released the man on $3,000 bail with two sureties at $1,500 each. The man was ordered not to have contact with witnesses known to him and told to surrender his travel documents, though he said he had none.
The man will reappear for mention in Magistrates' Court on January 22.
