Clifton Anderson, of Mullet Bay Road, St. George's, stole a World Cup shirt from the Sports R Us store on Church Street last Friday.

When first approached by store staff who had seen him take the shirt on the instore security cameras, Anderson fled.

But he later returned to the same shop to try and explain his innocence. When Police were called he again quickly left, making his getaway on a motorcycle.

Police followed in hot pursuit and eventually found the 30-year-old hiding in undergrowth near the Pembroke Dump.

Representing himself on Monday, Anderson pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing but told Senior Magistrate Will Francis that he stole the shirt because he felt annoyed with the store.

"I asked if they would give me a discount if I spent $150,'' he said. "But then they wouldn't give me a discount and that's why I got mad, although I'm not using that as an excuse.'' Anderson was fined $200, part of which was to be paid to the store as compensation for the shirt. He was also fined an additional $200 after failing to stop for a Police officer.

THIEF IMPRISONED CTS Thief imprisoned A drug addict who admitted a series of theft offences received a six month jail sentence this week.

Carla Joyce Johnson, 39, of Court Street, Pembroke, who is already serving 15 months for theft and breaking her probation, was sentenced by Senior Magistrate Will Francis.

The court heard that Johnson had pleaded guilty to stealing two cheques, forging a cheque, entering a private home.

In addition she admitted a theft charge from the Hamilton Pharmacy.

Leighton Rochester, prosecuting, said she was seen putting cosmetics into a bag and stopped outside the store. Items were recovered which had come from the store.

Tyrone Chin, defending, said there was a heated argument at the store, where Johnson said she would return later to pay for the items.

Mr. Chin said Johnson also asked for seven other offences to be taken into consideration.

He said she is a drug addict and she would like some help with her habit as part of her sentence.

Johnson received a total sentence of six months for the theft offences, to run concurrently with the 15-month sentence she is currently serving.

BURGLAR FACES SENTENCE CTS Burglar faces sentence An unemployed Warwick man will be sentenced in the Supreme Court after admitting to stealing two gold chains and cash worth a total of $1,750.

Frederick Spence, 40, of Pearman's Hill West, had been given a two-month suspended prison sentence in March, just days after committing the break-in.

Senior Magistrate Will Francis heard how Spence, who has been in trouble with the law since he was a child, had broken into a house on Harbour Road, Warwick while the occupants were away on holiday between March 12 and 18.

When the occupants returned they discovered that somebody had broken into the house after removing glass from the bathroom window. Forensic experts carried out a search of the property and found Spence's fingerprints on the glass. He was later arrested and admitted carrying out the burglary.

TEEN HELD IN DRUGS RAID CTS Teen held in drugs raid A 16-year-old Pembroke youth will appear in court later this month following a Police drugs bust.

Officers swooped on a gang of youths at the White Wall area of Curving Avenue, Pembroke, on Sunday evening after receiving a tip-off that somebody was selling drugs in the area.

Four teenagers were arrested and searched. Three of the gang were later released but a fourth member was detained and later bailed to appear before a magistrate later this month.
