Simons made redundant in shake-up
redundant, the Bermuda Hospitals Board announced.
The position was eliminated as part of a shake-up of the management structure, the board said in a news release signed by chairman Mr. Robert Tucker.
"There will, no doubt, be future consolidations of various small units, but we do not envision any further redundancies,'' he said, adding that the board wanted to recognise "the years of loyal service rendered'' by Mr. Simons.
Mr. Simons could not be reached for comment.
The management shake-up from a traditional "hierarchical'' set-up to a "programme management form'', resulted from a recent review of St. Brendan's completed in April, the news release said.
The review was announced early this year following articles in The Royal Gazette highlighting staff concerns about patient care, treatment, and release at the psychiatric hospital.
Prepared by a broadly-based 15-member steering committee, the review called for action in areas including: programmes and services; clients; and care delivery, organisation, and management.
Several task groups, mainly made up of staff members, will be formed to act on specific issues, the board said.
In eliminating the administrator's position, the hospital will create three major programme groups reporting to the chief of psychiatry.
