Single father accused of harassing ex-girlfriend

A well-known fathers' rights activist has been accused by the mother of two of his children of stalking and harassing her for the past two and a half years.

Ms Gina Richardson, 30, claimed in an interview with The Royal Gazette this week that she has had no peace of mind since the break-up of her two-year relationship with Mr. Anthony Poerstamper.

Mr. Poerstamper, a 36-year-old Briton who has garnered widespread media coverage for his campaign to strengthen the custodial rights of men, is the father of Ms Richardson's three-year-old twin boys.

"I had a relationship (with Mr. Poerstamper) and then decided to end it,'' Ms Richardson said. "Because I did, he decided to make my life a living hell.'' Since they parted ways, the single mother alleged, Mr. Poerstamper has tried to get her both fired and evicted, has repeatedly harassed anyone who supports or is connected to her and has been dragging her through the courts in an effort to bankrupt and intimidate her.

She also said that he has "popped out from behind corners'' at her and violated her solicitor's warnings to stay away from her apartment.

"I've had to have screaming matches in public to get him to leave me alone,'' Ms Richardson claimed, adding: "What am I supposed to do? I have no life. My boys have no life.'' In the past 30 months, Ms Richardson continued, she has had to appear before a judge "at least 30'' times, mostly to answer contempt of court charges that Mr. Poerstamper has brought against her.

The latest court appearance, both parties confirmed, was during the past few days, when Ms Richardson had to explain to a Supreme Court justice why she has been denying Mr. Poerstamper his weekly visitation rights since the summer.

"I (had) to go to court on Thursday because he hasn't seen his sons in three months,'' she said, citing the alleged "refusal'' of Mr. Poerstamper's friends to "bring them back on time'' as the reason she won't hand them over.

Mr. Poerstamper has been advised to stay away from Ms Richardson's residence and sends a Southampton couple to pick up his children for their scheduled time together.

In a separate interview, he denied that the couple had ever refused to bring them back to their mother.

"He can do this,'' Ms Richardson said of Mr. Poerstamper's court actions.

"He has the time. I can't. I have to go to work and take care of two little boys. He cannot feed them, he can't put a roof over their heads. But he takes me to court. If I lose my job, who's going to feed them? Who's going to put a roof over their heads?'' Ms Richardson, who has sole custody of the twins, works between midnight and 8.00 a.m. as an overnight security guard. Her former partner, who lacks Bermudian status, was "laid off'' from the same security company in February and has been unable to make any child support payments since then.

He said he is currently petitioning the Immigration Department for permission to seek employment.

"Why,'' Ms Richardson asked, "is he still here? He doesn't have a job, he has no home and he's not paying child support. When is Government going to sit up and say enough is enough?'' For his part, Mr. Poerstamper hotly denies all of Ms Richardson's allegations, saying he does have a home in the house of his friends and he could easily take care of his children if he were granted custody.

He claimed, moreover, that he had only turned to the courts when he grew concerned about their "living environment'' and was allegedly denied access to them.

"All of the court actions have been in response to something that Gina Richardson did,'' he said. "She is the unreasonable one. I can't even happen upon my children on the street without her pulling them away from me. Does that sound reasonable to you?'' As for the stalking charge, he said: "I have never skulked around trees and I don't even know who her landlord is. With regard to her employer, why would I (try to get her fired)? For what?'' Mr. Poerstamper stressed he was following all the proper immigration procedures and could not provide child support until he gets the green light to start looking for a job.

"The whole issue of fathers' rights comes into it again,'' Mr. Poerstamper said. "Although I'm a non-Bermudian, I still have Bermudian children. What about their rights to a family and a father?'' He added: "I have not been stalking or harassing Gina. If that were the case, why has she not pressed charges? If I was the unstable one, why would I be given more and more access to the children?'' Ms Richardson said that she has consulted "every agency possible'' about Mr.

Poerstamper's alleged harassment but was told that she lacked hard evidence.

She said she has turned to the media out of sheer desperation.

"I can't take take this any more. All I want is my life back and the right to raise my sons without having to look over my shoulder.'' UNHAPPY FAMILY -- Ms Gina Richardson of Southampton claims that the father of her three-year-old twins has been making her life a "living hell'' for two-and-a-half years.
