The outburst came in a marathon confrontation with prosecutor Mr. Barrie Meade, during Watson's trial for the murder of 68-year-old Wilbur Doe.

Watson says it was Smith, his former best friend, who clubbed Doe with a wrench and not him. Smith has told the trial he cannot remember anything about the night of the attack.

Yesterday Watson sipped tea at the witness stand and dabbed his face, complaining he had a slight headache.

"What do you think Mr. Doe had when you went bang, bang, bang?'' asked Mr.

Meade.

Apparently outraged, Watson replied that the person who attacked Doe was the person who "left you hanging'' by saying he could not remember anything. "He used you,'' he told Mr. Meade.

"God help us if he gets on drugs again and commits another offence.'' It was "crap'' that Smith could not remember, he told the court.

Mr. Meade went on to question Watson about the appointment Watson says he made with Doe the night of the attack, to exchange $1,500 in Bermuda currency for US money.

Watson admitted he did not tell Police about the appointment when arrested after the attack. But he denied this was because he had not "thought it up'' then.

He said he needed the US dollars to go on a Christmas trip, but at the time of the incident, December 8, 1988, had no reservations made and no dates set.

Questioned on the statement he made to detectives allegedly confessing to the attack, he said parts of it were "mumbo jumbo'' and "gibberish'' -- particularly comments about supposedly having a split personality.

He denied making these comments to suggest a defence of diminished responsibility, saying he was just repeating what Police had already told him.

He said he had not known Doe was causing a problem for his employer at the construction site where he worked.

Questioned by his lawyer, Mr. Tim Marshall, Watson said although he had convictions for breaking and entering, he had no record of violence.

He said Smith lied in two previous trials by saying he looked through a window at Doe's house and saw Watson carrying out the attack.

"Did you assist or help Ricky Smith in the attack on Mr. Doe?'' Mr. Marshall asked. "No,'' replied Watson.

The trial continues with concluding speeches from the prosecution and defence.
