The Somerset Trojans striker was ruled to have fouled after a high speed Police chase, Magistrates' Court was told.

And yesterday the 27-year-old paid the penalty with a $700 fine and a 12-month driving ban.

Bascome, of Tankard Lane, Somerset, admitted driving dangerously, failing to stop for Police, and driving while disqualified.

Prosecutor Sgt. Peter Giles said the incident occurred in the early hours of November 26.

He said Police saw Bascome travelling west along Pompano Beach Road, Southampton, and began following him.

"He was seen to look back and accelerated away from the Police car,'' said Sgt. Giles.

Sgt. Giles added Bascome turned into the Somerset Bridge Recreation Club, but the gate was closed.

Bascome then drove at high speed along Woodlawn Road, looking back at the Police car, said Sgt. Giles.

After turning into Rockywold Drive, Bascome doubled back and was stopped by Police and arrested.

Bascome told Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis he disputed the prosecution's version of events.

He said he was unaware the Police were behind him, adding he had had a "previous experience'' with a Police officer who arrested him.
