Student attacked by man
Warwick Academy and assaulted a student.
Jahi Butterfield, of Bay Lane, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court this week to trespassing and unlawfully assaulting high school student Jared Monkman.
Prosecutor Sgt. Peter Giles said that on January 17, Butterfield and another man entered the Warwick Academy School on their bikes through the Middle Road entrance.
"Butterfield asked a friend to give him money for gas but the friend did not have any so Butterfield began asking other students,'' Sgt. Giles said.
"He then asked student Jared Monkman for a dollar, but when Monkman did not give him the money, he began to argue with him and repeatedly hit him in the mouth.'' A teacher then came out and told Butterfield to leave or she would call the Police.
Butterfield told her to go ahead and call because he was already in trouble.
He then asked the teacher for money for gas.
Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis told Butterfield: "It sounds like erratic behaviour on your behalf.'' He released Butterfield on $300 bail and ordered him to return to court on July 5 for sentencing.
