Student says he's fed-up with mistaken identity
wrongly summoned to Magistrates' Court for an alleged fourth time.
Corey Matthews, of Tribe Road Two, South Shore, appeared in court yesterday to answer to the newest charge -- which was not given out in court -- but the Police constable who issued the ticket said Mr. Matthews was not the man he issued the ticket to.
Crown counsel withdrew the charges at that point.
Acting Senior Magistrate Edward King asked Mr. Matthews if he knew anybody who would use his name. He replied: "That could be a lot of people Your Honour.
"Your Honour,'' he continued, "is there anything I can do to ensure this doesn't happen again?'' The court gave no response.
Mr. Matthews said he has been charged on four separate occasions and each time a warrant was issued for his arrest as he could not appear in court because he was at Clark University in Atlanta. Each time, he continued, he was charged wrongly after someone else gave his name when ticketed. On one occasion, the alleged mistaken arrest saw him spend New Year's Eve in jail.
