$800 and given a suspended prison sentence.

Shawn Fox, 20, of Riviera Road, pleaded guilty to attacking Andrew Brown last September and Laurie Baxter a month later.

Senior Magistrate William Francis heard how an argument broke out between Fox and Mr. Brown at the Southampton Rangers Club.

Prosecutor Veronica Gordon said that Fox tried to push his victim over a wall but instead he fell forward and lost consciousness.

Mr. Brown later received hospital treatment for wounds to his neck, mouth and leg.

Fox also admitted punching Mr. Baxter on Middle Road, Southampton. When arrested he told Police that the two assaults were gang related.

In court yesterday defence attorney Kim Young explained how Fox was financially responsible for his five-month-old daughter and was also hoping to pursue a career in architecture.

Sentencing Fox to two consecutive prison terms of three months, suspended for 12 months, Mr. Francis, who had earlier studied a social inquiry report on the defendant, said: "There were some very serious injuries inflicted here and certainly grievous bodily harm is a very serious offence.

"I hope that, as a result of this, if you find yourself in a situation that gets heated in the future, you will take some other course.

"I do not want to upset your career and I think that this is unlikely to happen again but I want to impress on you that this could have been serious enough for me to impose a prison sentence.''
