Taxi driver fights off passenger
outside a Police station and get help.
However his attacker managed to escape and Police are now searching for the man who tried to rob the driver.
At about 9.15 p.m. on Monday a self-employed taxi driver was driving along South Road, in Warwick, when he saw a man flagging him down.
The driver told Police that when he stopped the taxi, the man got in and asked to be taken to some apartments on Pearman's Hill, Warwick.
Police spokeswoman Evelyn James Barnett said: "Once they arrived there, however, the man changed his mind and stated that he wanted to be taken into town.'' She added: "By way of conversation the taxi driver realised that the man did not have any money.
"When they reached the Paget stop lights the passenger demanded money from the taxi driver, who refused.'' The passenger then gripped the driver around the neck, but he was able to struggle free and when the lights turned green, he carried on into Hamilton, said Mrs. James Barnett.
When the car got near the north roundabout, the driver was attacked a second time and he again fought the man off.
When he reached the junction of Parliament Street, the driver quickly drove to Hamilton Police station and reported the incident.
The passenger escaped, but the taxi driver was able to give Police a detailed description of the man. Police investigations are continuing.
