The teacher, who cannot be named for legal reasons, reportedly has maintained his innocence.

The Royal Gazette understands that letters were sent out to parents on Friday, referring to the resignation.

"With heavy hearts we've accepted the resignation of a senior teacher,'' it stated.

But school officials did not disclose the name of the teacher nor the nature of the incident which led to his resignation.

When contacted yesterday, a spokesman for the school would only say: "It has been confirmed that a teacher has resigned.''
