Teen is jailed nine months for drugs
possessing almost 250 grams of cannabis and miscellaneous drug equipment.
Kamal J. Trott, of Kitty Lane, admitted the charges in Magistrates' Court.
Prosecutor Sgt. Kendrick James told the court that Police officers entered Trott's home at 6 a.m. on July 20 last year with a search warrant and found the marijuana, pay-type envelopes, a straw, two pieces of white tile and two razor blades in Trott's room.
The latter items were later found to bear traces of heroin.
Sgt. James said Trott committed the crimes when he was 17 years old and studying overseas. Trott said he had found the drug growing wild.
Trott's lawyer Mr. Phil Perinchief said his client had been in custody for the previous three months in connection with other matters and was a "far cry from the young man I saw then''.
He said he did not feel a custodial sentence would help Trott who wished to clear up these matters and return to school abroad where he was studying.
Magistrate the Wor. Edward King said he had considered Trott's age but added that he could not overlook the fact that Trott must know about "the war on drugs''.
Mr. King sentenced Trott to nine months for possessing the cannabis and one month for each charge of possessing equipment for the use of drugs which would run concurrently.
