Teen pleads not guilty
carnal knowledge of a girl between the ages of 14 and 16.
Magistrates' Court heard on Tuesday that the Devonshire man allegedly committed the offences on June 4 in Smith's Parish.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges and elected to be tried in the lower court.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner adjourned the trial until November 14 and granted him $1,000 bail with one surety.
The boy's father asked that the court date be moved to January when he would be able to assist his son with a lawyer. He said he was refused legal aid for his son.
Mr. Warner said: "No. The real problem is holding the court up. Although the matters are allegations at this time, it is dealing with young people and such matters should be dealt with as speedily as possible.'' But the father stressed he would not be able to secure legal aid for his son.
Mr. Warner continued: "The court cannot sit and say we aren't going to set down trials until next year. In fact we try to do the opposite.
"One of the benefits of being set down here is a speedy trial. These are serious charges and he should be granted legal aid.'' BODY DISCOVERED OBT Body discovered The body of a 59-year-old man has been discovered outside a White Sands Road property in Paget.
