Teenage cyclist lied to police
Magistrates' Court yesterday when he admitted giving Police a false name after he was stopped for a minor traffic offence.
Makee Dwayne Tucker of Valley Heights Road said he gave the name and birthdate of an acquaintance because there was a warrant out for his arrest. However, his friend was also wanted by Police.
Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, told the court that Tucker was pulled over on December 8 as he rode an auxiliary cycle along Friswell's Road in Devonshire.
The 18-year-old told officers his name was Andrew William Smith. Although the name and birthdate he gave checked out, Tucker was arrested because there was a warrant out for Smith.
While he was being transported to the Hamilton Police Station, Tucker admitted his true identity.
Magistrate the Wor. John Judge ordered a social inquiry report on the teenager.
