A letter she sent to the Governor Thorold Masefield on April 24 read: "My Dear Governor, The wonderful gift of Easter lilies from Bermuda have once again given us enormous pleasure and filled the Castle with their delicious fragrance over this Easter.

To enclose the photograph showing a sea of lilies was remarkable! I hope you will convey my grateful thanks to the Government and People of Bermuda for this very much appreciated Easter present.

Yours Sincerely, Elizabeth II'' MURDER TRIAL IS ADJOURNED MUR Murder trial is adjourned The Supreme Court trial of Paco Fubler, who is accused of murdering golf caddie Brian Sherlock, was adjourned yesterday morning after the jury was sworn in.

Fubler, 25, of Somerset Road, Sandys, denies murdering Mr. Sherlock on, or about, May 20, 1994.

Assistant Justice Charles Etta-Simmons adjourned the trial until 9.30 a.m.

tomorrow to hear legal arguments from Crown counsel Patrick Doherty and Fubler's lawyer Marc Telemaque.

TREATED FOR LACERATIONS CRM Treated for lacerations Police are investigating a report of an assault which left a 17-year-old Sandy's Parish women being treated for lacerations to her face.

The incident occurred outside the Hamilton Parish Workmen's Club shortly after midnight last Friday when two females got into an argument, a Police spokesman said.

It is alleged that one of the females broke a bottle and assaulted the second woman with it and cut her during the argument.

When Police arrived on the scene they found that a large crowd had gathered but the two women had already left. However bloodstains were found outside the club.

Police later attended the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where they interviewed the women.

ENERGY WORKSHOP STARTS CON Energy workshop starts The Ministry of the Environment is hosting a three day workshop this week on renewable and alternative energy technologies for small Islands.

Environment Minister Arthur Hodgson welcomed local and foreign participants to the workshops, which started yesterday.

The findings from the three day event will be forwarded to the United Nations' Commission of Sustainable Development which will meet for a special session in April, 2001.

During the workshops, specialists like UN Secretariat of the Commission on Sustainable Development Dr. J. Gururaja will talk with participants about energy efficiency and cutting down on fossil fuel emissions.

Bermuda based energy conservation and renewable resource organisations will give poster presentations during the event.

DETAINED AFTER ASSAULT CRM Detained after assault An off-duty Police officer detained a man following an assault at a Pembroke restaurant late on Friday night.

The constable held the man until uniformed assistance arrived at the Spring Garden restaurant in Washington Lane just after 11 p.m.

The victim of the assault was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for stitches to various cuts.

The suspect was arrested and subsequently bailed.

WOMEN `ASSAULTED MAN' CRM Women `assaulted man' Police are looking for two women who assaulted a man after setting fire to his tie as he rode through St. George's on Saturday night.

The victim was riding his bike near Clearwater Beach when the two women approached on a motorcycle and stopped him.

He alleges they removed the keys from the ignition of his bike, and then one of the women, who he knows, demanded he pay back cash owed to her.

After handing over a quantity of cash, he told officers that the women then proceeded to slap and punch him, removed his necktie and set it alight, damaged his cycle and then tried to choke him.

The women rode off and he was able to retrieve his bike before calling Police.

Anyone with information about the attack should call Police on 295-0011.

THIEVES TARGET TWO CARS CRM Thieves target two cars Police are investigating two incidents in which cars were broken into by thieves.

The first happened on Addendum Lane, Pembroke, overnight on Friday. It is believed the thief gained entry to the parked car through an insecure window.

Stolen were a car amplifier and a socket and screw driver set.

The second incident involved an unlocked car that was left unattended in the gardens of Olive Bank, Warwick. The owner had left her wallet on the front seat of the vehicle and returned a couple of hours later to find it stolen. It contained a quantity of cash and personal items.

SUSPICIOUS CANISTER FOUND POL Suspicious canister found Marine Police were called to investigate a suspicious canister found near Bermuda International Airport at the weekend.

Officers attended the vicinity of Clearwater Beach on Saturday morning after the Fire Service discovered the canister between the rocks on the south eastern portion of the Clearwater Gate, near the runway.

Members of the Police explosive Ordnance Disposal unit were called and the object was removed and taken away for disposal.

It was found to be an MK.25 flare, which contains the corrosive, red phosphorous.

Airport security was also in attendance.

SENT TO SUPREME COURT CTS Sent to Supreme Court A 19-year-old man heard that he would be tried in Supreme Court because the allegations against him were too serious to be dealt with in Magistrates' Court.

Michael Jones of Warehouse Lane, Pembroke, was not required to enter a plea to charges of intending to cause grievous bodily harm, possessing an offensive weapon, unlawful wounding and wilfully and unlawfully damaging a motor car.

Magistrate Will Francis released Jones on $5,000 bail and ordered him to surrender his travel documents and avoid contact with the complainant and witnesses in the case.

He was also told to report to Hamilton Police Station twice a week until June 30 when he will reappear for mention in Magistrates' Court.
