The two big portable radio-cassette players, apparently found in bushes on the Riviera estate, Southampton, were handed in to Police on Thursday.

Police say the machines are "fairly expensive'' and in "exceptionally good condition''. One has a dual tape feature.

"They have not been reported lost or stolen and efforts to trace their owner have so far proved fruitless,'' said Police spokesman P.c. Gary Venning.

"Anyone who has recently lost such items is asked to contact Somerset CID on 234 1010. Proof of ownership or a good description will obviously be required before they are released.''
