Executive Director's Message This was an exciting time in the 150-year history of hospital care in Bermuda.

This fall marks another landmark for the Bermuda Hospitals Board with the opening of a new surgical wing. In our continuing commitment to improve the quality of care and service we provide, this important milestone addresses the changing health care needs of both residents and visiting guests alike.

In this issue of Care, we outline the newest phase of hospital growth, perhaps best expressed by Vivienne Gardner's "Spark of Life'' sculpture, completed at our front entrance. This eternal flame will continue to symbolise our goals of preserving life and providing the best care possible for the community.

Whether we are working to make better use of our resources by providing quality patient care in the most cost-effective manner, as outlined in the Utilisation Management Programme, or to provide better diagnostic screening at our new state-of-the-art Endoscopy Suite, we are always striving to ensure that the Spark of Life continues to shine brightly.
