Thieves on the prowl
The Bermuda Taxi Service, on North Shore Road, Pembroke, reported that someone broke into the premises sometime Sunday night.
An employee arrived at work 7 a.m. Monday to discover that two doors had been forced open.
A safe -- containing a significant quantity of cash and cheques -- was removed and two money boxes were forced open and an unknown quantity of cash stolen.
The thief/thieves also made off with a couple of cartons of cigarettes.
Police believed that a vehicle was used in the theft.

The Gear Box, on Church Street, also fell prey to thieves Sunday night.
The manager told Police that he secured the store Sunday evening but when he returned around 6.30 Monday morning someone had broken in.
A quantity of cash and a pair of black Buffalo jeans were stolen.
And Designer Flowers, in the Windsor Place was targeted by thieves who removed a quantity of cash from the till Monday.
Business were not the only victims, a 92-year-old St. George's woman had money taken from her bedroom while she laid in her bed.
Police are searching for a 26-year-old Pembroke man, believed to be a relative of the woman, in connection with the theft.
The incident took place around 2 a.m. Monday at the woman's Texas Road home.
The woman was asleep in her locked bedroom when the man forced the door open, sat down next to the woman and begged her for money.
When the woman refused, the man searched her room, stole a quantity of cash and fled.
Police are also searching for a man who entered a guest cottage and stole some cash while the victim socialised with friends in another room.
The incident took place at the Brightside Guest Cottage in Flatts sometime between 9 and 11 p.m. Monday.
The man entered the cottage and stole cash and other personal items from a rucksack.
The guests reported seeing someone suspicious entering the apartments and lurking around until midnight.
The man is described as dark-skinned, five-foot ten-inches tall in his early 20's with small facial features, a neat appearance and wearing a light blue denim top.
Police were called to the Sonesta Beach Hotel Monday afternoon after a visitor was ripped-off by a thief.
The visitor said he retired for the night, leaving the sliding door slightly ajar. When he awoke 10.30 a.m. Monday he discovered his wallet and a quantity of cash missing.
And a white Nissan van, parked at Brangman's garage over the weekend, fell prey to thieves.
Police said the owner reported a quantity of jewellry, perfume and two rag dolls stolen.
