Third time unlucky for disqualified driver
Magistrates' Court yesterday after being caught driving while disqualified for a third time.
Winston R. Albouy told Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis that he was driving to work when he was stopped by Police in the early morning of September 26.
Sgt. Earl Kirby, prosecuting, said that Albouy was noticed driving along Cavendish Road, Pembroke, by an officer who knew he was disqualified.
When he was stopped and questioned, the Warwick resident told the officer: "Come on, it's just me. I have to get to St. Brendan's.'' According to the officers, Albouy "ran away'' from the scene, but was quickly apprehended.
The 44-year-old engineer said his wife was sick that night and unable to drive him. He insisted he had tried to find another way to get to work, but decided to "take a chance''. He also denied he ran from Police.
"I walked off towards the main street -- I didn't run. And that was after I gave them all the information.'' Mr. Francis angrily told Albouy: "Why didn't you take a taxi? Because it would cost you? Now it's going to cost you your freedom.'' The Senior Magistrate activated the three month suspended sentence from Albouy's February conviction and added another three months for the September offence. He was also further disqualified from driving for two years.
