Bermuda's international profile is set to be raised with two upcoming tourism events.

Island representatives are to attend a hospitality industry event in the Caribbean next week -- and later in the year Premier Jennifer Smith has been lined up for a profile in a top US magazine.

On Monday, Tourism Minister David Allen will be joining several hotel general managers attending the Caribbean Hotel Industry Conference in the Bahamas.

In addition, Bermuda Hotel Association president Muriel Richardson and Director of Tourism Gary Phillips will also be attending the event, which runs until Wednesday.

And it has been revealed that the Premier is set to grace the cover of top selling Travel and Leisure magazine.

It is understood that the monthly publication is preparing the feature for its September issue -- its biggest selling of the year -- which includes its annual travel awards.

Bermuda has been voted best island in the Caribbean and Atlantic region three years in a row by the magazine's 4.3 million readers.

Travel and Leisure sells across North America and is aimed at affluent and sophisticated professionals.

Mr. Phillips said the Tourism Minister's attendance -- which is normally reserved for hoteliers -- in the Bahamas was especially important this year, following his introduction to the region in January at the Caribbean Hotel Association market place in Puerto Rico.

Over 1,000 people are expected to attend, with representatives from hotels, service industries, travel media and vacation wholesalers.
