Trucker disqualified
least for the next 12 months. Tyrone O'Brien Hill, 44, of Smith's Hill, St.
David's was disqualified from all vehicles for a year and fined $1,000 at Magistrates Court after he admitted a charge of drunk driving.
The court heard that Hill was stopped by Police at 3.05 a.m. on December 19 on Mullet Bay Road, St. George's. Prosecutor Wayne Caines said the officers saw Hill speed past on York Street. They asked him if he had been drinking, and he said he had two beers. Hill gave a sample of breath which gave a recording of 121 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood. When asked by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner if he had anything to say, Hill said: "I'm guilty of drinking and being over the limit, but consider my situation, I'm a truck driver and this is my livelihood, and I was on an auxiliary cycle.'' Mr. Warner replied: "It is unfortunate for these offences of impaired driving that I haven't got the discretion, it is a mandatory disqualification.'' Hill was given until March 5 to pay the fine.
