US ship to help in local research

Otherwise, Bermuda's docks were relatively quiet during the Christmas holiday.

The container ship Somers Isles , also handled by Meyer, arrives from Florida on Sunday.

Also arriving in the New Year is the cargo ship MS Clover Ace , transporting cars from Santa Domingo.

The ship, handled by Harnett and Richardson, is due to reach the Island on Saturday with 29 cars and 40 packages of assorted car parts.

A second car ship, the Sea Premier , arrived from Bahamas on Boxing Day and dropped off 44 cars and 37 packages of assorted parts before leaving.

The Bold Venture , a cargo ship for the US Base arrived in Hamilton on December 29 with two dry and one refrigerated container. She left the same day for Norfolk, Virginia.

And the Ionian Glory stopped in Bermuda for refuelling on Christmas Eve en route from Piraeus, Greece to New York.

The ship was carrying 5,239 metric tonnes of castor oil and continued on her journey the same day.

All three ships were handled by John S. Darrell Co. Ltd.

The container ship Oleander took a week off and remained in port for Christmas.

It sailed from Bermuda on Boxing Day.

The ship, handled by Container Ship Management Ltd., departed two days early from Port Elizabeth, New Jersey and is expected to arrive in local waters on Saturday.

In other dock activity, the tanker Iver Express arrived in Bermuda on Christmas Eve and berthed at Murray's Anchorage until Boxing Day when she went to Esso Oil Docks in St. George's before departing on Monday.

And a Greek warship, Themosticles , sailed from the Island yesterday after a two-to-three day delay caused by weather.
