Veteran wants medals back
he mislaid on Saturday night.
Mr. Charles Berry is desperate to wear the four medals proudly on his chest at a reunion of the Fleet Air Arm on Sunday.
Mr. Berry is offering a reward for the two war service Victory Medals, the Atlantic Star for service on an aircraft carrier and an Air Efficiency Medal.
He received the medals for his service in the Fleet Air Arm and Coastal Command during the Second World War.
He believes he dropped the envelope containing the medals outside the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club as he crossed the Point Pleasant Road to get a taxi outside the Bank of Bermuda on Front Street.
Capt. Patrick Outerbridge, of the Bermuda Regiment, had sent the medals to England for cleaning.
Mr. Berry said: "The medals were looking a bit grotty because I had them for so long. Capt. Outerbridge sent them over to London for cleaning and he gave them back to me on Saturday night at the yacht club.'' According to Mr. Berry the medals were contained in a padded envelope. He presumes he picked them up with his camera bag and foul weather gear before leaving.
"I checked with the taxi and the Yacht Club and they were not there so I must have dropped them,'' he said. "They represent a very important part of my life and that is why I am offering a reward.
"They are worthless to anyone else. They cannot sell them for drugs. They will not even be able to get a beer for them, unless they return them to me!''.
