Victims identified ship's bartender
assaulting three female passengers was identified as the assailant by all of them, Magistrates' Court heard yesterday.
The man, who was a bartender aboard the ship, has denied breaking and entering the passenger's cabins and sexually assaulting them on the early morning of August 3 while the ship was berthed in Dockyard.
One of the females was a 12-year-old girl.
Insp. Johnathan Smith told the court that the defendant took part in three identification parades at the Police Recreation Club and although he stood as a different number in each parade the alleged victims identified him every time.
W.P.c. Michelle Simons said at 6.05 a.m., as a result of a complaint of sexual assault, she attended the Meridian and was directed to the doctor's office.
"There were a number of people in the office and the defendant was in the back room with the ship's security. I spoke to the doctor and the 12-year-old girl's father and then recorded a statement from the girl in the presence of her mother as she was a minor,'' W.P.c. Simons said.
She added that she noticed that the defendant's face was bloody and blood was on his shirt.
Det. Con. Shelly Grant told the court that she seized a black Kodak camera and three keys from the defendants cabin, none of which were master keys and none which fit any of the rooms of the complainants.
P.c. David Cooper said that while being questioned, the defendant stated (through a translator) that he was a crew member aboard the ship and his one function was the serve the passengers at the bar.
"He said his duties that morning ended at 2 a.m. and after that he went to his friend's cabin where a number of them drank a number of beers. The defendant also said he had a camera with him at the time and he had not been to anyone else's room and he said that he did not commit any sexual acts,'' P.c. Cooper said.
