Avon Burgess, 62 of Clay Estate, Hamilton, yesterday pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to driving while impaired.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Phil Taylor said Police were on patrol on North Shore Road, Hamilton Parish on May 5 just after 9 p.m. when they saw Burgess cross the centre line in his car numerous times. After signalling for him to pull over, Sgt. Taylor said, they smelled alcohol on his breath and noted that his eyes were red and glazed. When asked if he had been drinking, Burgess said: "My cricket club, Bailey's Bay, won and I've been drinking ever since.'' It was later discovered that Burgess had 152 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of his blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

Acting Senior Magistrate Cheryl-Ann Mapp told Burgess: "As you celebrate do not take control of your vehicle.'' She also ordered him to pay $600 and banned him from driving all motor vehicles for one year.
