Visitor searched three times by drugs officer
ransacked her hotel room in a fruitless search for drugs.
Now Wendy Boxhill has complained to the US Consul General's office and pledged to report her ordeal to White House officials.
"I want everyone to know what happened to me in Bermuda. I'll telephone the President and tell everyone at the Federal Government where I work,'' said Mrs. Boxhill, of New York City.
Mrs. Boxhill said her ordeal began Saturday evening, February 1, when she was searched after arriving at the Airport by Customs officers who found nothing.
She said on Sunday morning she was in her room at the Southampton Princess when there was a knock on the door.
"I asked who it was and the reply was room service. I opened the door and four Police officers barged in and demolished the room,'' said Mrs. Boxhill, who came to Bermuda last April.
"They asked where the drugs were and I said I did not have any drugs. The Police said I must have swallowed them so they took me to the hospital.'' X-rays at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital did not reveal any drugs and the Police took Mrs. Boxhill back to her hotel.
"Only one of them apologised when I got back to the hotel,'' said Mrs.
Boxhill who complained to the US Consulate General.
Mrs. Boxhill said the Consul General was going to take the matter up with the Bermuda Police Service.
Police spokesperson Evelyn James-Barnett confirmed that the incident did take place Sunday, February 2.
She added: "The incident did take place, but we were acting on information received from Customs and nothing was found.'' DRUGS DGS
