Waddington's successor named
Masefield -- a career diplomat in the United Kingdom's Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Mr. Masefield will take up his post in June. During his varied career which began in 1962, he was the High Commissioner in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Second Secretary, Chancery, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. His most recent posting was as High Commissioner in Lagos, Nigeria.
Mr. Masefield is married to Jennifer and has two sons and one daughter.
Present Governor Lord Waddington plans to leave Bermuda in April.
A Government spokesman said that Mr. Masefield's appointment came on the heels of continued consultation with Premier David Saul.
Initial discussions began in May and then led to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office selecting a member of the Diplomatic Service.
A short list of interested candidates was established and Mr. Masefield was selected.
