others are in circulation, Police warned the public and especially merchants yesterday.

"If you believe that you have a counterfeit bill in your possession, put it in a safe place and telephone the Police,'' Detective Constable Chris Wilcox of the Crime Prevention Unit said.

"It is likely that the person or persons who passed the six bills detected so far will attempt to pass more notes in the days leading up to Christmas.'' Det. Con. Wilcox said that each of the six notes discovered to date were 1988 $50 US Federal Reserve notes with the same quadrant letter and number, H4.

"They all have the same check letter, F, and are drawn on the Bank of Atlanta, Georgia,'' he said adding, "The front plate number on the face of all bills is H43 (and) the back plate number, which is found on the extreme right-hand side of the notes, is 110.'' Four of the confiscated bills were reported to have the same serial number: F55877377A.

"To assist you in detecting counterfeit bank notes, both US and Bermudian, pick up a free copy of the Police advisory brochure entitled Counterfeit Currency,'' Det. Con. Wilcox suggested.

He added that anyone who comes into contact with a phony bill should call the Police CID office at 295-0011.
