Progressive Labour Party leader Jennifer Smith has been featured in a Caribbean-wide newspaper.

And the article predicts that the PLP could be in its best position ever to beat the ruling UBP at the next general election.

Ms Smith admits in the article in Caribbean Week that the PLP lacks support from the white community on the Island -- and that she would like to attract more of that section of the vote.

The article, written by Bermudian James Ziral, claims that overcoming distrust in the business community will be a "significant hurdle'' for the PLP.

But Ms Smith said the business community -- domestic and international -- would be satisfied if it could be assured that that the climate would be as beneficial to them under the PLP as it is under the ruling United Bermuda Party.

And she said it was in the Country's best interests to have a thriving business community, so the PLP and the business both had an interest in maintaining the economy at a healthy level.

Ms Smith added that the PLP lobbied against a yes vote in the 1995 Independence Referendum because the party did not want to hand then-Premier Sir John Swan "a blank cheque''.
