Woman denies fraud charges
Amway products under false pretences.
Appearing in the plea session of Magistrates' Court yesterday, 34-year-old Kewaunde Henry pleaded not guilty to fraudulently obtaining $6,780.70 worth of products from the Amway Corp.
Henry, of Granaway Heights in Southampton, also denied that she bought the items by pretending to be the owner of Visa and Mastercard credit cards belonging to Carlton and Margo Fraser.
Senior Magistrate Will Francis set the matter down for trial on June 2.
In a similar offence, 16-year-old Kyle Henderson, of Mary Victoria Road in Devonshire, admitted using his mother's friend's credit card to purchase a video game.
The court heard that Henderson in October went into a purse belonging to Rose Garden Warwick resident Susan Clarke and used information on her Mastercard to buy a playstation underground game over the phone through a 1-800 number.
According to Crown counsel Leighton Rochester, Ms Clarke was a good friend of Henderson's mother and visited their home an average of three times a week.
Ms Clarke, it was heard, would leave her purse in the living room of the Henderson home as she went walking with her friend.
Mr. Rochester noted that Ms Clarke was alerted to the matter when she received her credit card bill in November and that on investigation with Mastercard she learned that Henderson had been the culprit. Mr. Francis ordered a social inquiry report.
