Woman threw rock at rider
to throwing a rock and a bottle at a motorcycle and wilfully damaging it while on probation.
But Shonika Armstrong, of Douglas Drive, told Magistrates' Court that she was throwing the objects at the man riding the bike.
Prosecutor Sgt. Phil Taylor said the bike's owner had given the bike to a man so he could repair it. On May 4, he took the bike for a test ride and went past Armstrong on Somersall Road.
As he went by, Armstrong threw a rock and a bottle. The objects hit the bike and broke its headlight and mirror. The damage was estimated at $249.30.
The court heard that Armstrong declined to give a statement when interviewed by the Police and she was on probation.
When Senior Magistrate Will Francis asked the woman why she had thrown the objects at the bike, she replied: "I was aiming for the rider.
"I did not intend to hit the bike. I hit the rider but he pushed the bottle away and it hit the bike. I had no intention of hitting the bike. I was trying to hit the person riding it.'' Mr. Francis originally intended to release the girl on $500 bail with a like surety while an update of her probation report was prepared.
Armstrong asked to be fined. Mr. Francis agreed and said it would have been the likely sentence anyway. He fined her $300 and ordered $249.30 be given in compensation to the owner of the bike.
