On December 9 the western roadside fences will start coming down, specifically on the south side of St. David's Road between the main gate and the hangar and on the north side between Stokes Bay and Marginal Wharf.

Between January 27 and March 31 the petroleum tanks along St. David's Road and by Marginal Wharf will be dismantled.

And during the same period three buildings on Marginal Wharf will be demolished as they are structurally unsound and unsafe.

Tenders for the tank removals and the building demolitions were due to be issued to local contractors today.

ROYAL PALMS SEEKS EXPANSION PLN Royal Palms seeks expansion A small Hamilton hotel is set to enlarge its facilities as it proves to be one of Bermuda's success stories.

Royal Palms Hotel manager Susan Weare told The Royal Gazette the Rosemont Avenue, Pembroke property had applied for a second storey addition which would result in three new guest bedrooms.

Mrs. Weare said if the proposal went through quick enough, work would begin in January with completion aimed for February -- in time for the hotel's busy season.

This ran from March to November, continued Mrs. Weare, when the 44-bed property enjoyed about a 90 percent occupancy rate.

Mrs. Weare said the hotel planned to introduce mini-suites with small kitchens and cable television.

HOMELESS, FINED FOR STEALING FOOD CTS Homeless, fined for stealing food The Senior Magistrate fined a homeless man $100 yesterday after he admitted stealing three candy bars and a package of potato chips.

Dean O'Brien, 34, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to the offences which occurred on November 29 at the Warwick Shell gas station.

GOVT. PLANS TO SELL PLOTS OF LAND GVT Govt. plans to sell plots of land Government plans to sell off two pieces of land for just over $380,000.

Works and Engineering Minister Leonard Gibbons recently submitted the proposals to the House of Assembly Friday.

The first piece of land is up for sale to Phillip Schindel for $251,306.75 and consists of 0.23 acres at 29 Middle Road in Devonshire where the Post Office Cottage is situated.

The second piece of land is on Beacon Hill Road in Sandys Parish and will be divided into four lots which will result in Government earning $129,000.

TWICE LEGAL LIMIT TAKEN OFF ROAD CTS Twice legal limit taken off road A man with more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood was taken off the road for one year and fined $450 in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Nicholas Dietl, 24, of St. Michael's Road, Paget, admitted the offence which occurred on October 30.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Anthony Mouchette said a Police patrol saw Dietl riding his auxiliary cycle around 3.45 a.m.

He struck the sidewalk and nearly fell off the cycle. When a Police officer approached him he told the officer he was a tourist who spoke no English.

A breath test found he had 187 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The limit is 80.

MONEY JEWELLERY STOLEN FROM HOME CRM Money, jewellery stolen from home A Pembroke woman returned to the Island last weekend to discover her house had been broken into and valuables stolen.

The 46 year old told Police that when she entered her house on West Park Lane, she noticed that someone had been there.

An undisclosed amount of money, jewellery, and other valuables were missing.
