Primary School students that a primary education was more important than secondary.

The articulate young Berkeley Institute first year student bested his debating teacher Mr. Gladstone Thompson. Young Jordan, a former West Pembroke student, brought loud cheers from the young audience ranging from ages five to eleven.

A smiling Mr. Thompson admitted he was fairly beaten.

Mr. Thompson, the religion and civics teacher at Berkeley, said the young student was an exceptional debater. Earlier this month the youngster was judged to be the champion debater in competition between all secondary schools.

Unintimidated by his teacher's argument, the young man stood his ground arguing forcibly that without the foundation of a primary school education, secondary education was wasted.

"Without a foundation to build on you cannot go far,'' he said.

Towering over an impressed front row of five year olds, he addressed them as ladies and gentlemen and completely won their support. Mr. Thompson had lost the debate before it even started.

West Pembroke school principal Mrs. Davina Blakeney and her faculty watched proudly as their former student made his point. Berkeley students Eugene Johnston and Kyle Tannock, timekeeper and Speaker of the house, kept both debaters under "strict manners''.

Jordan, a quiet young man with his eye on an eventual career in computer technology, pointed out the virtues of primary school students over secondary.

"Secondary students cause more trouble than primary students,'' he said.

At the end of the hard-fought debate, Mrs. Blakeney asked the children to pick a winner. The delighted youngsters unanimously chose their new hero.

Local politicians need note debate the Independence issue.

According to Mr. Thompson, Berkeley Institute students are planning a major debate on the subject and will be more than willing to share their findings.

Jordan is planning on winning the next debate. Pleased that one of her former students could do so well in debate, Mrs. Blakeney told the now shy Jordan: "You really have quite a future ahead of you.'' CHAMPION DEBATER -- Jordan Zancanella waits patiently for the next debate. The young Berkeley student is the number one debater among Secondary School students.
