$8.3 million-worth of drugs seized in 2010

Police have taken $8.3 million worth of drugs off the streets this year so far, with $2.4 million worth intercepted in the past three months.

According to crime statistics released yesterday, the majority of drugs were seized at street level, but there were 28 seizures at ports including the airport and two seizures abroad with the assistance of overseas law enforcement agencies.

One instance overseas saw $195,050 of cocaine intercepted and the other involved $1,650,000 worth of cannabis. All the drugs seized in the last three months weighed a total of 43 kilograms, which is just over 94 pounds. Cannabis was the most common narcotic seized, followed by cocaine, and heroin.
