A Pembroke man pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court yesterday to speeding at three different speeds -- all within three minutes.
Abdul Hakeem, 22, of Cedar Avenue, admitted the offences to Senior Magistrate, the Wor. Will Francis.
Noting the times each ticket was written, Mr. Francis asked prosecuting Sgt.
Cyril Plant how it could be possible.
"Your Worship,'' Sgt. Plant said, "on March 12, the defendant was caught riding a motorcycle at 56 kph up Trimingham Hill. When he saw the officers conducting a radar check, he turned around and drove at 60 kph in the opposite direction. The officers had to chase him down Crow Lane, and they clocked him doing 70 kph.'' When Hakeem was stopped at Great Things, Police discovered that he was also off the road.
Mr. Francis told Hakeem: "I'm taking into consideration your guilty plea. In the interest of fairness, I won't impose a separate penalty for all three speeds. If you had fought this in a stupid way, I would have considered everything.'' Hakeem was fined $450 and taken off the road for 18 months for the speeding offences, plus a further $350 and 12 months disqualification for driving while disqualified. The driving bans will run concurrently.
