Argus Health Care to be held next month
The fifth annual Argus Health Fair will take place on Tuesday, April 7, at the Number Six Shed in Hamilton.
Thirty health-related charities, organisations and professionals will be on hand to answer questions and provide health and wellness information to the public for the event from 10.30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Details will also be available on coping with diabetes, heart disease, obesity and cancer. The Argus booth will have the theme 'Five Ways to Five-a-Day' and will highlight the importance of eating fruit and vegetables.
Gerald Simons, president and CEO of the Argus Group, said in a press release: "When we look at the root causes of the four most serious health conditions in Bermuda — diabetes, heart disease, obesity and cancer — we see how vital proper nutrition is.
"Ninety-three percent of adults in Bermuda don't get the recommended five servings of fruit and vegetables a day.
"At Argus we believe that when people better understand how their daily choices affect their lives over the long-term, they are better able to make positive change."
The session is being held in conjunction with Bermuda Hospitals Board and the Department of Health.
Minister of Health Nelson Bascome said: "The Ministry of Health is responsible for the well-being of the community. That's why it is a pleasure to join Argus and the Bermuda Hospitals Board once again this year for the Argus Health Fair.
"I encourage everyone, for your own health and wellness and that of your family or loved ones, to attend the fair and obtain valuable information on those illnesses that are a real threat to our well-being."
David Hill, CEO of Bermuda Hospitals Board, said: "All of us at BHB are passionate about health and wellness as we also see the impact of an unhealthy lifestyle on the body and the mind. As Bermuda's only hospitals, we are working hard to improve access to health services and also provide education and advice on how to improve wellness.
"About 50 of our health care professionals will be present at the Argus Health Fair and we are all excited to be reaching out to help improve the well-being of Bermuda."
