Banned drivers back in court

Gladwyn Darrell, 44, of Khyber Heights, Warwick pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and speeding at 52 kilometres per hour on May 9.

Darrell's car was stopped at a radar check and Police discovered he was disqualified from driving, the court was told.

Acting Senior Magistrate the Wor. John Judge fined Darrell $400 for disqualified driving and $150 for speeding. He also handed him a three-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and disqualified him from driving for a further 12 months.

Darrell is now off the road until July of 1995, the court was told. Donald DeSilva, 30, of Green Acres, Devonshire, pleaded guilty to riding while disqualified and speeding at 57 kilometres per hour on Parsons Lane on May 5.

He too was stopped at a routine radar check.

The court heard that DeSilva had four previous convictions for driving while disqualified and was off the road until September of 1998.

Mr. Judge fined DeSilva $350 for riding while disqualified and $170 for speeding. He banned him from driving for a further 12 months.

Lamuel Crofton, 17, of Dockyard in Somerset, pleaded guilty to riding a motorcycle while under the age of 18 and to speeding at 57 kilometres per hour.

Crofton was stopped at a radar checkpoint on South Road in Warwick on May 16, the court was told. He was found to be only 17 years old, while the law requires a person to be 18 to ride the type of bike that he was on.

Mr. Judge fined Crofton $100 for riding under age and $170 for speeding. He also disqualified Crofton from driving for 12 months.
