Mr. Ward Young and Mr. Reid Young of BDC Ltd. presented the $10,000 cheque to Mr. Robert Tucker, chairman of the Bermuda Hospitals Board and Mr. Hume Martin, executive director.

The cheque is the first payment of BDC's $100,000 pledge to the CARE Campaign.

BDC will continue to pay the pledge over the next five years.

The campaign began two years ago to raise money for major renovations to the hospital. It has already raised $5.7 million.

Money from the campaign paid for the expansion of the Extended Care Unit which resulted in an increase in beds and a new rehabilitation unit for neurologically impaired children and follow-up treatment for patients with head injuries and stroke victims.

Renovations to the Acute Care Wing were also completed and many hospital departments have undergone improvement.
