A Bermudian children's book featuring President Barack Obama is now being introduced to America.

The Banana Leaf Faerie Elf, by Joan K. Aspinall, was displayed at the Printer's Row Book Show in Chicago in June.

While the book has been on sale in local book stores for more than a year, it will be a new edition of the book available in the US.

The book is about a Bermuda faerie elf named BooBooBanana, who is injured and rescued by Ronnie Chameau, a real-life artist known for her banana leaf doll craft.

BooBooBanana is packed and shipped to the White House, where she spreads a message of love and peace to the Obama family.

Ms Aspinall said that after a conversation with a member of the American Library Association, she decided to remove the names of the President's children from the book to not infringe on their privacy.

"It was the fastest book turnaround imaginable," she said. "One positive aspect, however, is that the puppy, originally a black/brown spaniel mix, is now a fluffy black and white, capturing the image of Obama's new dog Bo.

"Ironically, the original edition with Sasha and Malia is now a collector's item, as the names will never be repeated."

Along with Bermudian book stores, the books will be available in the US through a mail-order website.

"I have learnt so much about the publishing business. An author must incorporate every aspect of technology if they are to advance," she said.

"Of one million titles published last year, 750,000 of them came from small publishers like myself."
