Four men charged in Cup Match home invasion

Four men appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday charged with an armed burglary at a Warwick home over Cup Match.

Kentwoine Jones, 19, Donahue Sousa, 19, Aaron Liverpool, 19, and Kyle Tavares, 23, are charged with entering as trespassers on a home on Dunscombe Road on July 31.

They allegedly stole two wallets, containing a total of $1,200, and were in possession of a knife with cutting edge in excess of three inches and a ball attached to a lengthy rope.

Jones, from Warwick, was represented by defence lawyer Mark Pettingill, while Sousa, from Pembroke, was represented by lawyer Kenneth Savoury.

Defence lawyer Charles Richardson was acting for both Liverpool, from St. George's, and Tavares, from Fairyland, in Pembroke.

The four accused were each released on $10,000 bail with one surety and were ordered to stay away from all complainants.

They will appear back in Magistrates' Court, before Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner, in two weeks for mention.

Third man charged with East End robbery

A third man was charged in Magistrates' Court yesterday in connection with an armed robbery in the East End.

Umdae Woolridge, 20, was charged with trespassing on a Slip Point Lane, St. George's home with a firearm on July 1.

Detroy Smith, 24, and Wesley Stovell, 18, both from St. George's appeared in Magistrates' Court on the same charges on July 6.

Woolridge, of Miss Vickey's Lane, in St. George's, is accused of stealing $1,200 and being in possession of a firearm.

He is also charged with conspiring with Smith and Stovell to commit the offences.

He was not asked to enter a plea as the matter is indictable only and will have to be tried at the Supreme Court.

Woolridge, who was not represented in court by a lawyer, will appear for mention with his two co-accused on Tuesday. Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner remanded him in custody until then.

Horton 'taken aback' land swap was not tabled

Southampton MP Randy Horton said he is "taken aback" that a land swap deal allowing a luxury tourism resort to be built at Morgan's Point did not go before MPs before the parliamentary summer break.

The Government backbencher predicted at the start of July that the agreement would be tabled in the House of Assembly within a fortnight. But the House adjourned until November on July 23 with no sign of an agreement for politicians to approve.

Such a contract would pave the way for a hotel, condos and golf course development at the former US Naval Annex and would mean the Southlands estate in Warwick could be turned into a national park.

The three Southlands Ltd. directors — Brian Duperreault, Nelson Hunt and Craig Christensen — have agreed not to speak to the press as part of the deal and Government has been unwilling to report on progress.

Mr. Horton told The Royal Gazette he was "a little concerned" that the agreement was not tabled in the House before summer recess.

"I was of the impression that it had to go before the House. I was taken aback somewhat that it didn't. I think it's important that we see something happen at Morgan's Point. It's been sitting dormant for too long."

The Ministry of Works and Engineering took over Morgan's Point, which is heavily polluted and needs a multimillion dollar clean-up, from Bermuda Land Development Company on August 1.

It has not answered questions from this newspaper about whether that means remediation work is about to begin.
