Man arrested for vandalising cars
A 46-year-old St. George's man was arrested for allegedly vandalising cars in a Pembroke neighbourhood over the weekend.
Police received several reports of wilful damage and theft involving vehicles parked on Ocean Lane, Mount Langton Crescent and Robin Hood Drive between 10.30 p.m. on Friday and 9.30 a.m. on Saturday.
A spokesman said: "It appears that small quantities of cash and/or personal items were taken from some vehicles, while it does not appear that anything was taken from other vehicles."
Inquiries are ongoing by the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit. Constituency MP Wayne Perinchief commented: "This event is a continuation of car break-ins that have occurred in Pembroke Park in past months. I was not aware of the present event but I am pleased that an arrest has apparently been made."
Lifeguards pulled from two beaches
Effective immediately, lifeguards will cease duty at Cooper's Island Nature Reserve and Turtle Beach in St. George's.
According to a statement from Department of Parks, other beaches including Clearwater Beach in St. George's, John Smith's Bay in Smith's and Horseshoe Bay in Southampton will continue with their lifeguard service until further notice.
Summer bus passes will be honoured
Summer bus passes for students, which expired yesterday, can be used until school starts
Concerned parents contacted the Ministry of Tourism and Transport to say their children would be without a pass until school starts mid September
But a spokesman said last night: "Although student summer bus passes expire today, August 31st bus drivers will honour the summer passes until school begins on the 14th of September.
"Public School Students will receive a bus pass for the school year on the first day of school, September 14th, 2009."
Motorcyclist injured after collision with car
A man suffered a possible broken leg after his bike collided with a car outside Shelly Bay MarketPlace.
According to Police, the accident occurred just before 3 p.m. on Sunday, as the driver of the car was exiting the grocery store's parking lot.
Said a spokesperson: "It appears that the car was exiting the parking lot of the Shelly Bay MarketPlace and the motorcycle was travelling west on North Shore Road when the vehicles collided. The male motorcycle rider sustained a possible broken left leg and abrasions."
The man was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment. The 47-year-old woman driving the car, was not injured.
Continued the spokesperson: "The motorcycle was extensively damaged while the car received moderate, front end damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway."
Burglaries in Smith's and Southampton
Thieves made off with cash from homes in two separate incidences this week.
According to Police, the first theft took place at a Peet Point Lane, Smith's residence on Wednesday.
"The complainant stated that sometime between 10.30 a.m. and 4.15 p.m. that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into her home while it was unoccupied," a spokesperson stated.
The second incident was reported at 2.30 a.m. yesterday at a residence on Middle Road, Southampton.
A Police spokesperson said: "The complainants stated that around 2.10 a.m. an unknown man gained entry into the premises and stole a quantity of cash. The culprit then made good his escape. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6 ft tall, of slim build."
Inquiries into both incidents are underway.
Computers, cash stolen in burglary
Computers and cash were stolen from a Southampton home over the weekend.
According to Police, thieves entered the Rebecca Road residence sometime between midnight and 6.30 a.m. on Sunday.
Said a spokesperson: "The culprit stole a BlackBerry Bold cellular phone, a black IBM laptop computer, a black 22-inch flat screen TV and a quantity of cash. Inquiries into this incident are underway."
In addition, the weekend saw five people arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and 13 reported burglaries.
According to Police, there were also 11 damage only road traffic collisions, 15 road traffic collisions resulting in injury and eight stolen vehicles reported.
